Governor candidate Robson: Governor ‘Hobbs tries to block President Donald Trump at every turn’

July 29, 2025 | Karrin Taylor Robson

Karrin Taylor Robson, a gubernatorial candidate in Arizona, expressed her support for President Trump on border security and criticized Governor Katie Hobbs for opposing him. The statement was made on the social media platform X.

“Katie Hobbs tries to block President Donald Trump at every turn,” said Taylor Robson. “As Governor, I’ll always have his back, especially when it comes to keeping our border secure. My remarks to the Quail Creek Republican Club.”

Border security remains a significant issue in Arizona’s 2026 gubernatorial race, with candidates divided over enforcement and federal-state cooperation. According to Axios, Republican hopeful Taylor Robson supports stricter border measures and highlights her backing from Donald Trump. In contrast, incumbent Democrat Katie Hobbs focuses on bipartisan solutions and federal partnerships to address trafficking and migration. These differences underscore a polarized debate shaped by ongoing border crises and recent federal interventions.

Recent statistics from Axios indicate that Border Patrol apprehensions in Arizona fell sharply from about 47,300 in December 2024 to 29,100 in January 2025, marking a nearly 40% decrease. Nationally, according to the Pew Research Center, migrant encounters at the U.S.-Mexico border dropped 77% between December 2023 and August 2024. This data illustrates the rapid impact of enforcement and policy changes on Arizona’s border activity.

According to AZFamily and the Center for the Future of Arizona, public support for stronger border policies has increased over the past year. A September 2024 poll showed nearly two-thirds of voters favoring Proposition 314, a major enforcement measure. Research from May 2024 also reveals bipartisan backing for comprehensive border solutions, indicating that Arizona voters remain focused on this issue.

Taylor Robson is a Republican attorney and business leader who served on the Arizona Board of Regents from 2017 to 2021 and finished second in the 2022 GOP gubernatorial primary. She holds degrees from Arizona State University, founded Arizona Strategies, and launched her 2026 governor campaign with endorsements from leading Republicans.

According to Ballotpedia, the government of Arizona is led by a popularly elected governor serving four-year terms with a two-term limit. Gubernatorial elections occur every four years by plurality vote. The decentralized system relies on county officials to manage polling and results while the Secretary of State oversees integrity.
